Bob & Marg HOOPER'S “Micro-Van” Teardrop CamperBob builds light weight boats, kayaks and canoes for a hobby. Margaret has a real talent for interior decorating and colour co-ordination. They were looking at camping trips away (even bought a tent, which is still in its box) then got interested in teardrops. After visiting the Aussie Teardrop web pages, then speaking with Reiner, they were hooked. What could be better than a double bed and kitchen on wheels and Aussie Teardrop Campers supplied the bits and pieces required, with lots of advice and helpful suggestions. Bob and Margaret have a Subaru Forester and settled for a 4' 6'' wide body to fit a standard double bed mattress with no requirement for extended rear view mirrors, so Forester wheels were used on the teardrop so that the spare fit both car and camper. Bob's boat building experience came to bear in the construction and finishing, resulting in an all over “woody”. Two coats of epoxy resin, then five coats of traditional yacht varnish for u.v. protection give a golden glow to the okume (mahogany) marine ply. The interior is made of varnished oregon beams with vanilla wood panelling. The mattress has a blue suede cover, as do the pillows. The doona, additional pillows and sheets are a matching set featuring blue and gold stripes to give a “wow” effect. A CD/DVD with AM/FM tuner and ceiling mounted monitor provide sight and sound entertainment. Access to wicker storage baskets from Forad is via sliding doors. Bob and Margaret are willing to sell their “Micro- Van” or build one to order. Price: $14.000
