Southern Cross Association

southerncrossphoto.jpg (37311 bytes)The Southern Cross Association FTC Inc. was formed early in 1998 by a group of volunteer motorbike riders to raise funds for children's charities. Its major fund raising event is a week long 'Poker Run' through Queensland in aid of Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Queensland.

All members involved with the Southern Cross do so in their own time and there are no wages paid. The charities therefore receive the full benefit of the funds raised. Southern Cross has grown tremendously since its early days and now has members Australia wide and even some overseas. Some members don't own or ride bikes but enjoy the social and community feel of the association and all are considered valuable members.

Membership is renewed on 1st April each year for the princely sum of AUD$10. New members receive a cloth badge with the SCA logo, membership card and number, access to the Southern Cross Yahoo! Chat Group, discounts from nominated businesses and a monthly newsletter to inform them of happenings within the association.

Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Qld

nice+shorts.jpg (27371 bytes)Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Qld receives very little funding from the government and greatly appreciates the social and financial support they receive from the members of Southern Cross Association. Every year many hours are spent securing holidays and prizes for the Poker Run. Some of the businesses that generously donate every year are: Club Crocodile Long Island, Rivera Resort Hervey Bay, Blue Dolphin NSW, Radio SeaFM Qld, Regional Channel TEN, RACQ and many others.

Some people with spina bifida are mobile and some are wheelchair bound, but all enjoy the freedom they experience on the back of a Southern Cross bike or trike.
