Step 7

Olliepaintjob1.jpg (58295 bytes)All the glass parts are back from the painter and look fantastic. Painted in Saffron Yellow to match Ollie's trailer with an ivory insert on the HD tank to make it look more like a tank.

Olliemotor_w.jpg (53564 bytes)The motor is back from Leon too and has had some headwork done and the carbie it needs to be a real 1915 with balls. I polished the mufflers too to match all the other shiny bits on the motor. It looks brand new now and it should go pretty good too.

First the Gearbox went back in so we could hook up the brakes and Handbrake cable. After bleeding the brake system, the tank went back where it should be. I welded the second bracket on the torsion bar so the tank can sit on both sides and doesn’t crack again.

After the tank was in, the bar above the tank to support the body could be bolted in place as well. The shocks were put in place and I made sure the tank is sitting in the middle and the shocks don’t touch the tank.

After Gearbox and Tank were in place the motor was bolted to the Gearbox.

It is starting to look like half a Trike again

Now is the best time to fit the mudguards and the towbar because the wires, which all come together right in the middle above the gearbox, can easily be worked on right now before the main body goes back on.

The Perei Lights in the new mudguards are heaps brighter than the standard Bon Trike lights, which most people hate with a passion. The worst part is there is no replacement parts available for the HS3 lights. I have a few left in stock but after that there is no more. The Germans have changed to Perei lights too and the old ones are not around anymore.

The rear crash bar is fitted first to bolt the towbar in place. I have to say I love the design of our Tow-bar, there is other ones which have to be removed to change your motor-oil, but the Bon Trike one can sit in place and passes the access plate for the sump on both sides. Wonder who came up with that one?

Step 8

After the battery is back in place its time to lift the main body where it belongs. The body is bolted under the front seat, in the centre right next to the passenger seat and at the back next to the number-plate. Now comes the fun part. To fit the Gary Fludder HD Tank all the electric has to be moved from the old position into the tank in front.

For this job you better sit down and take your time. I never counted the wires but there are a lot of them and all in beautiful colours too.

We have all the instructions here on the web page where which wire goes where, but to make it all more interesting some models use a few different colours. The red wire on the hazard switch can be purple on older models and the tank sender wire changed colour too on some Trikes, but basically you should get it to work if you take your time and follow the instructions.

Ollie's Trike has now got a temperature gauge, which also lives in the HD tank. The temp gauge needs a positive, an earth connection and a wire run from the sender unit at the motor. The gauge has lights too so there is 2 more wires needed. There is lots of room in the tank for wires, etc, which makes it a bit easier later if you have to work on it.

Some wires have to be extended in the old wiring harness, but that's not hard to do.

Gary made a fibreglass extension on the HD tank so it also gets bolted down with the seat so you can actually hang on with your knees without ripping the tank off the Trike…. it works…

Ollie small rear wheels ( 235X15) got replaced with the much nicer 295X15 on bigger rims. The front wheel which was a skinny one is now the fat 150X17 and has a matching new front mudguard too.

After all this is bolted on we put the running boards back, which look brand new after the powder coater had his way with them.

Ollie wanted a windscreen too, which I fitted last to make sure it doesn't get scratched. Actually Quinton fitted that one and a few other bits and pieces while he was here helping me on his Holiday.
Thank you heaps Quinton.
